Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003
Part VI of this Act deals with environmental aspects, and grants a local authority new powers to deal with anti social behaviour. Once the Act has been brought into force, an authorised environmental health officer will have power to issue a closure order to stop noise from any licensed premises from causing a public nuisance. The order could be effective for up to 24 hours. If the person responsible for the nuisance fails to obey, then he or she may be subject to a fine of up to £20,000 or imprisonment.
This right is in addition to the police powers set out in the Licensing Act 2003.
