Advance warning – the existing noise regulations have been updated, and will come into force for music and entertainment sectors in February 2008. It has been estimated that one million new workers will be covered by the new regulations, as well as extending protection of those covered by the existing rules.

The existing rules already regulate maximum exposure to load noise on a constant basis, since regular exposure to sound levels above 90 dBA may result in hearing loss. It is estimated that a noisy theatre foyer may reach 80 dBA, and a large orchestra playing forte may reach 100 dBA.
