Safety Bonds and Secondary Suspensions
A safety bond is a type of secondary suspension (ie, a back up to the primary method of suspension). An example of a secondary suspension is the safety chain used with lamps, in case the primary clamp fails. There is no statutory requirement for secondary suspensions, but failure to use a secondary suspension may be seen to be a failure to ensure health and safety. Many local authorities, insurers and venue operators require them, unless the equipment is permanently installed.
ABTT has published a guidance note specifically on safety bonds and secondary suspensions.
