Sound – Radio mikes threatened by changes proposed by OFCOM
One result of the digital TV switch over is the re-ordering of the analogue radio spectrum. As any theatre sound engineer will know, radio mics and other wireless equipment uses part of that spectrum. Currently, there are fears that changes to available radio frequencies will cause difficulties for theatres.
It is feared that the available spectrum will be sold off to the highest bidder, which may mean that the required frequencies are no longer available, or are too highly priced.
However, this week, The Stage reports that Ofcom – the body which regulates the spectrum – is listening to the industry’s concerns and stressed that it will not do anything which would threaten the future of UK theatre.
