The Digital Economy Bill
The government has published the first draft of its new proposals to deal with online copyright infringement. In theory, the new rules will help the creators of online content to stop illegal file-sharing. Detractors point out that the provisions are wide, lack definition, and allow the Secretary of State to further amend copyright law by secondary legislation without full parliamentary scrutiny.
Given the short time-span before the next general election, it seems unlikely that the Bill will become law, but the conservative party has declared its overall support for the new regulations.
