Consultation: Control of Artificial Optical Radiation

#, #, #

The European Physical Agents (Artificial Optical Radiation) Directive will be brought into force in the UK by the proposed Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations. The Regulations will oblige employers using hazardous sources of light (including lasers) to review their approach to take proper account of the risks.

The good news seems to be that the HSE  does “not expect employers to undertake unnecessary risk assessments especially if they are already managing the risks and if their business has only safe sources.”

However, if you are interested in the details of the new draft regulations, the HSE has published full details of its consultation. The closing date for any replies is the 5 February 2010.
